In the previous article, we shared three strategies for motivating corporate learners, including involving employees in planning, making training content practical and work-related, and making training a priority for the company. The four strategies we shared this time will involve the design and format of training, as well as the internal motivation of learners.
Strategy 4: Micro-learning
We live in an era of multi-tasking and multi-interference. Therefore, the learner's attention span is constantly declining. To effectively allow learners to focus and learn actively, the foreign training community has introduced micro-learning, which is bite-sized learning.
Bite-size learning refers to breaking down the learning content into small and manageable chunks, centering on one learning objective at a time and a concentrated structure that provides learners with key knowledge, rather than requesting learners to experience too long and uninterrupted courses. Bite-sized learning enables learners to be more focused and actively participate in their own learning process.
Strategy 5: Group format, involve employees in the learning process
Through active learning methods, corporate learners can be motivated to engage in training. Active learning includes requiring them to participate in activities, group discussions, role-playing, decision-making and reflection. For example, simulation puts employees in a specific scenario and then lets them try to make decisions under safe conditions and learn from experience (including mistakes).
Active learning is usually conducted in small groups, which can increase the interaction between tutors and learners, as well as between learners and learners. Every learner can get the opportunity to be noticed and listened to, increase the exchange of opinions and gain new perspectives.
Strategy 6: Training format and program design
When corporate learners are willing to engage in learning and are full of enthusiasm, their learning experience becomes interesting. Then, they will actively participate, reflect on and apply what they have learned to improve their performance. In addition to learning motivation, training content, learning format and program design will also greatly influence learners’ engagement and experience.
The professional facilitator will pre-design the program process and details, and add different training elements. The content of the program is normally from the simpler to the deeper, making learners feel challenged and interested in learning, thereby increasing learners' engagement. In recent years, training programs have also incorporated gamification concepts such as competition, achievement and collaboration, allowing corporate learners to learn in an interesting way, greatly enhancing their motivation for participation and continuous learning.
Strategy 7: Provide employees with personal growth training
In addition to specific job training, we recommend that you provide employees with learning opportunities that stimulate personal interest and personal growth. Let employees cultivate interest in learning and pursue personal growth and development, and they will repay the company's dedication to them with performance.
There are many ways to motivate employees to learn through personal development, such as understanding what kind of training employees want to receive, allowing employees to receive training from different departments to broaden their horizons, and letting professional coaches help them grow and develop. The company can even sponsor course fees to encourage employees to complete other learning and training in their spare time.
Summary
Learning should be a fun and exciting thing! Effectively motivating corporate learners to actively participate in the training will not only allow companies to obtain corresponding returns for their investment, but also cultivate a learning and growth-oriented corporate culture. This excellent corporate culture can effectively attract talents and enable companies to build a high-performance collaborative team.
