I recently finished watching the director's version of “Anita Mui”. In addition to deepening my understanding of this generation of diva, Anita Mui, I also admire very much her attitude towards life and work.

“Anita Mui” Movie

Anita dedicates herself to the work and loves the stage. She is positive, hardworking, persistent and not afraid of failure. Even with cancer, Anita did not give up work. In the end, although she was ill, she also completed the last eight concerts of her life very professionally. She is indeed a very good example of having a growth mindset.

Numerous awards and continuous pursuit of excellence

Anita started singing on stage at the age of 4. With her unique, magnetic and deep voice, Anita made her debut and joined the entertainment industry after winning the first “New Talent Singing Championship” at the age of 18. Just 3 years after her debut, Anita has already won many awards and held her first 15 concerts in the Hong Kong Coliseum. However, she did not slow down because of this, nor was she satisfied with her original style.

"I have always had an idea that masterpieces will always be in the future."

She has released at least 25 solo albums in just 21 years. Her song style is varied, and her modelling is avant-garde. From the little girl in the early days of her debut to men's clothing, rebellious bad girls, coquettish, sexy, charming and other styles, the variety of images is unparalleled. Her bold innovation surprises her fans every time and she injects many new elements into the music world, so she is known as "The Queen of Changes" and "The Big Sister of the Music World".

Not afraid of difficulties and setbacks, bravely and actively face

Anita once said: "I don't like being a weak and melancholy woman. In fact, I have a strong personality and I am quite boyish. When I have my own goals, I will work hard to achieve them".

Anita Mui's Press Conference

In 2003, at a press conference where Anita publicly explained her condition, she said firmly: "Yes, I have cancer, I have cervical cancer, and I can fight against this disease and win." After making public the condition, Anita did not stop working. While receiving treatment, she still appeared in high spirits to attend public occasions, shoot commercials and prepare for her concerts. In fact, she could have quit her jobs because of her illness; but with extraordinary perseverance and will, she chose to complete them professionally.

"Failure is not a problem, as long as you learn how to stand up in the process of failure is the most important thing. If you always want to ask for help from others, it is better to help yourself first; you have to rely on others? They are just your support, what can really help is your own heart."

Dedication, let her stick to the end

For Anita, the stage is not a job, but the life of an artist. In November 2003, a month and a half before Anita's death, she successfully performed the last eight concerts of her life. Before the concert, Anita had completed the entire chemotherapy course and had stopped taking drugs. Although her body was thin, Anita performed well on stage whether she spoke or sang, unlike a cancer patient.

Anita Mui's last concert

Later, the media interviewed Anita's good friend, Eddie Lau. It turned out that Anita was already very weak at that time. Ten heaters were placed in the dressing room under the stage. When everyone was sweating profusely, Anita was still cold with her hands and feet, and she was so weak that she needed someone to support her. On the third night of the concert, she even had a fever, which was worrying. The good friends around her urged her to cancel the concert and rest more. But she said: "I have to do it. If I don't do it, there is no chance to do it again."

“No matter what happens tomorrow, I will do what I do today and face the future positively."

Even though she was seriously ill, she still faced it firmly and completed eight concerts with an extraordinary will. At the concert, she said: "Before I held this concert, there were many voices from the outside world, saying Anita Mui this and that, can I hold this concert? Today I proved to myself that as long as I have confidence, there is nothing difficult. I can do it, everyone can do it.“ Her dedication and perseverance are admirable.

"Anita Mui" film production unit

In addition to Anita's growth mindset, the production unit of the movie "Anita Mui" also has the courage to accept challenges and the spirit of perseverance, which is worthy of admiration.

The movie "Anita Mui" not only restores the fragments of Anita Mui's life, but also the costumes and scenes take the audience back to Hong Kong in the 1980s and 1990s. This film was carefully made and took more than 6 years of preparation and production. The team travelled all over the world where there are Chinese people for auditions, and it took more than two years to select the heroine alone.

In order to show Anita's former demeanour, Louise Wong, the heroine who was first debuted on the big screen, spent more than half a year undergoing special training, so that her every move in today's movie has the essence of Anita Mui.

Cultivate a growth mindset

Most people with a growth mindset do so from the perspective of pursuing growth. They believe that success depends on individual effort and persistence. In the face of challenges, they will have the courage to accept them; in the face of setbacks, they will choose to persevere. They see hard work as the path to success. They learn from others' advice and draw inspiration from the successes of others.

A growth mindset is not innate, it can be cultivated. Start taking action today, embrace challenges, cultivate a growth mindset that is positive, persistent and not afraid of failure, and you will reap the rewards.
